Hibernia - Privacy Policy
Effective date: 1 September 2026
Developer: Sweet Town Studios (Marek Kubiak)
Contact: privacy@sweettownstudios.com
The short version
Hibernia is designed to respect your privacy. We do not require an account to play, and we do
not collect your location. The whole game is playable without ever signing in to anything.
Three things are entirely your choice. Two are off unless you turn them on: sending us
anonymous gameplay statistics so we can balance and improve the game, and allowing the optional
rewarded ads to be personalized (the only thing that involves an advertising identifier - on iOS
additionally gated by Apple's own permission prompt). The third is cloud save: you are asked once,
when you first play, whether to back your progress up to an account or to stay local only. If -
and only if - you choose to sign in, we receive the email address attached to that sign-in (see "Cloud saves"
below). You can change any of the three at any time in Settings.
This policy applies to Hibernia on every platform we ship it on.
What we collect
Only if you opt in (the setting is off by default), the game sends anonymous
gameplay data:
- Session and timing data - how long you play, and how much time passes between sessions.
- Progress data - your in-game progress (quest/level, resources, buildings, upgrades, tiles
explored) and periodic snapshots of your saved game.
- Device information - your device model and operating-system version, and the app version,
used only in aggregate to keep the game running well.
This data is tied only to a random identifier created on your device. It is not
linked to you, your Apple ID, your name, or any advertising identifier.
What we do NOT collect
- No phone number and no contacts, ever.
- No name or email address unless you choose to turn on cloud save and sign in - in which
case we receive only what that sign-in provider gives us (see "Cloud saves"). Choose "Local only" and we
receive neither. The anonymous gameplay statistics above are never linked to a sign-in
either way.
- No precise or background location.
- No advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, advertising ID on Android) unless you separately opt in to
personalized ads (see "Ads and purchases" below) - and the gameplay statistics above are
never linked to it either way.
- No payment details (purchases are handled by the App Store / platform, not by us).
Why we collect it
Solely to understand how the game is played and to balance and improve it (for example, whether parts of the
game are too hard, too slow, or too easy). We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising or
profiling.
Your choices
- The anonymous-statistics setting is off by default. You are asked once, and you can change
it any time in Settings. Turning it off stops all collection.
- Cloud save is a separate choice, offered once when you first play, with "Local only" among
the options - turning it off later in Settings stops your save from syncing (your local save keeps working as
normal). "Delete Cloud Save," inside Settings ▸ Cloud Save, removes your synced save
entirely.
- You can request deletion of the anonymous data associated with your device's random identifier by contacting
us at privacy@sweettownstudios.com, or by using the in-game
"Delete Analytics Data" option.
Data sharing, storage, and retention
- Data is sent to servers we control and is not shared with third parties for their own purposes.
- It is transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS) connections.
- Raw event data is retained for up to 12 months, after which only aggregate statistics are
kept.
Cloud saves
Cloud save exists so your progress can survive a reinstall and follow you to another device. It is
your choice, made the first time you play, and it works the same way on iOS and Android, using
Firebase (a Google service).
You are offered three ways to sign in - Sign in with Apple, Google, or an
email address and password - and a fourth option, Local only, which switches
cloud save off entirely. Choosing "Local only" means no account is created, nothing about you is sent to Firebase,
and your save stays on your device. The game is fully playable this way.
If you do sign in, this is what we receive and store:
- Your email address, from the provider you chose. Sign in with Apple lets you hide your real
address behind Apple's private relay, and if you do, that relay address is all we ever see.
- Your name, only where the provider supplies it (Sign in with Apple asks you whether to share
it). We do not display it, use it, or send it anywhere.
- Your saved game - a compressed copy of your in-game progress only (resources, buildings,
upgrades, tiles explored), stored against your account identifier. It contains nothing personal.
We do not receive your password: with Apple and Google, authentication happens with them and we only ever see
the result. Firebase/Google processes all of this on our behalf, governed by Google's privacy policy in addition
to this one. We do not sell it, share it, or use it for advertising.
You can switch cloud save off, change which account it uses, or delete your cloud save entirely at any time in
Settings ▸ Cloud Save. To have the account record itself erased as well, email
privacy@sweettownstudios.com.
Children
Hibernia is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. The gameplay
statistics we collect are anonymous and are never associated with a child's identity. Cloud save requires signing
in with an Apple, Google, or email account, which those providers already age-restrict. If you believe a child has
signed in and you would like the account and its saved game removed, email
privacy@sweettownstudios.com and we will delete it.
Ads and purchases
- Rewarded ads are always optional - an ad only ever plays because you chose an "Ad boost" in
the Shop, and declining ads costs you nothing that gameplay can't earn.
- Ads are served by Unity LevelPlay (ironSource). By default they are
non-personalized and no advertising identifier is used.
- If you opt in to personalized ads (asked once before your first ad, changeable any time in
Settings), the ad network may use your device's advertising identifier to select more relevant ads - on iOS
only if you additionally allow it in Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt; on Android
this uses the advertising ID, which you can reset or delete in your device's Google
settings. That identifier goes to the ad network, not to our gameplay statistics - the two are never linked.
The ad network's handling of this data is governed by its own policy:
unity.com/legal/privacy-policy.
- In-app purchases (Rune packs) are processed entirely by the store you installed the game
from - Apple's App Store or Google Play. We receive no payment details; the store's own privacy policy
governs the transaction.
- We use third-party services only as described on this page, and we require that they protect your data to
at least the standard this policy describes.
Your rights
- Both kinds of optional data collection happen only with your consent (our legal basis under
GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), and withdrawing consent is always one toggle away in Settings.
- If you are in the EU/EEA, UK, or a region with similar laws, you also have the right to request
access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of your data, and to object to its
processing - write to privacy@sweettownstudios.com.
Because our gameplay statistics are tied only to a random device identifier and never to your identity, we
may need you to use the in-game options (or provide that identifier) for us to locate any data that is
yours.
- You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
- For residents of US states with privacy laws (California and others): we do not sell your
personal information, and you can opt out of personalized advertising at any time in
Settings.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy; the "Effective date" above will change and material changes will be noted in-app.
