Nineteen small games for children aged 3 to 8. No scores, no timers, no losing. Just a friendly puffin and a lot of things worth being curious about.
Most apps built for small children are built to hold attention. Clever Puffling is built to reward it. Every game is short, self-paced, and finishes with something kind - because a three-year-old and a seven-year-old need very different things, and neither of them needs a leaderboard.
Puffling is the guide throughout: a puffin who demonstrates, waits, and celebrates. Children pick a zone, pick a game, pick a difficulty, and play. There is nothing to buy, nothing to unlock, and no way to get stuck.
Children rarely want the same thing twice in a row. The zones let them move between focus, curiosity, independence and quiet without leaving the app.
Seven games about noticing: matching pairs, spotting what changed, finding a shape by its shadow, and stopping at the right moment.
Words and pictures, letter and number tracing, the missing number in a sequence, and sorting things into the basket they belong in.
The independence zone: brushing teeth, getting dressed for the weather, tidying up, and working out what is safe and what is not.
For winding down. Guided breathing, an undersea soundscape, catching stars, and popping bubbles at whatever pace suits.
These came out of watching small children use apps, and they decide what does and doesn't make it in.
Where a child has to think or remember, there is a Ready button - never a countdown. Time pressure appears in exactly one game, where the timing is the game.
We only celebrate what the game can actually check. One idea was cut entirely because it would have congratulated a child for any noise at all.
A wrong answer wobbles and invites another go. No lives, no game-overs, no way to be sent back to the beginning.
Nothing is counted where a child can see it. The only thing tracked is which of several encouraging endings feels right.
Pattern Chaser, Colour Pairs, Stop!, What Disappeared?, Find the Difference, Where is Puffling?, Fit the Shadow, Missing Number, Sort It!, Brush and Splash, Getting Dressed, Safety, Tidying Up and Bubble Pop.
Clever Puffling has no accounts, no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics, and no third-party tracking of any kind. On iPad and iPhone it makes no network requests at all - it works with the aeroplane mode on, start to finish. The only things it remembers are the language, the sound settings and the music theme, and those never leave the device.
